What makes Florida a recreational destination of choice? What makes our fellow American citizens engage in a shift to the lovely Sunshine State? According to Will Weatherford, freedom is one of many answers. The paradise city, the palm trees, skyline, beaches, etc. are only just a few perks. He claims that 1000 people a day move to Florida. His claims, somewhat proven and backed up with the likely statistics are quite not entirely false. The population growth is increasing thanks to: the baby-boomers starting to retire, foreign immigrants through the favorable international relations, and let’s not forget the job hunters. Even during the economic crisis, the number of immigrants to Florida was floating in the high seven hundred’s. Besides personal reasons, jobs account for approximately 22% of Floridian immigration. The hungry Generation X looks for more than the clock in, clock out 9 to 5. The warm climate and salty breeze definitely contribute to a better work/life balance. Forbes 500 awarded Gainesville, Florida in third position for the top 10 cities with the best work/life balance. The increasing population is also due to the snowbirds, migrating at first to finally settle all year long.

Some are concerned with the economy re-collapsing and hitting an aftermath wave stronger than the first. To the skeptical we answer to fear not. The abundance of white collar jobs will play as a safety cushion to ensure a strong portion of jobs to fulfill.

Considering that Florida is not part of high tax bracket states (no personal income tax) and did we mention there’s NO snow? Sounds like an achievable «happily ever after». All aboard the Florida train until the Sunshine State is reached!
